Fascinating area

Mt Warning in NE NSW is the core of the once enormous Tweed Volcano that last erupted 23 million years ago.  Now the volcano has eroded away, leaving a crater 40 km across and a coastal plain of rich alluvial soil. It's the largest caldera (crater) in the southern hemisphere.

The 3803 ft peak of Mt Warning dominates the valley.

These cliffs are the north rim of the caldera.

This is the gap in that rim that provides easy access to the Numinbah Valley
which is a great scenic way to bypass the Coolangatta air space.
Just watch out for hang gliders launching from Springbrook.....

The whole area is densely settled with all sorts of folk, both rich and poor.
This would be one of the many community/commune settlements.

All sorts of hand-made dwellings in the forest.

Then a totally different 'community' out on the coast....

This shows the prevalence of solar panels on roofs in Australia.
And the white roofs and buildings which are so practical in all this hot sun.

Also some pristine beach still free of settlement.

The sugar mill and cane fields, and the magnificent Tweed River.

 Camped at Murwillumbah airfield.

This would have to be the prettiest dunny I've ever seen.
Very skillfully done.

That sure was a great day of flying!

Murwillumbah airfield (YMUR) is a great place to visit.
Walking distance to town, with great food at the Services Club and many cafes.
